Can You Be Good Without God?

For those of you who viewed TV news in the last week of January and listened to the one described in this article, this is my take on his nonsense. A rebuttal, if you will. Bear with me and you'll know what this is about. (This is my short version) Recent TV news (January 2010) reported and interviewed another dissatisfied individual who said he was once a practicing Jew then shifted to Buddhism, then decided to promote a new movement consisting primarily of atheists and “want to know-nothings” with their saying: “You can be good without God.” You may have viewed this report or have heard about this absurdity, a lesson in how to try to evade your conscience. Nothing new, but seriously childish, opposed to the First Commandment of God’s Law. Man is called by his creator to naturally grow to maturity and put away childish things. Efforts to ignore true conscionable thoughts and feelings is but postponing the inevitable that will eventually end resistance to acknowledging our Almighty God, Creator of all. This dissatisfied individual and his fellow atheists are similar to seekers of their own religion or form of worship. It is not difficult understanding their confusion. After all, there are reportedly more than 100 religions and over 25,000 protestant denominations! Most borne of a dissatisfied person or group (nothing but an excuse, really). All are disobedient to Jesus’ established ministry, no matter how man sees fit to distort/color Jesus’ instructions for his own convenience. Pastors/Preachers memorizing a Bible or Bible passages does nothing to repair their error, no matter how well intentioned they are to share the “Good News.” Some of these preachers are quite effective, moving their audiences with enthusiasm. I will give them that. However, these people appear to justify themselves by hanging on to the words of Jesus when He said, “If they are with me they cannot be against me,” or words with similar affect. This is fine as far as it goes, but it ignores the original Church Jesus established that would lead to the unity of Christians He prayed for to the Father. The devil is in the details, as is often said. The devil is certainly at work in this latest, startling information I received about at least nine imposters in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, taking for themselves names of Catholic Churches to mislead unsuspecting individuals. As a lifelong, Roman Catholic, it was natural to be taken aback by that news. How widespread this fraud is I do not know. It is a real shocker. What I do know and believe is that reasons for dissatisfaction that causes people to “look elsewhere” for a convenient religion until they find who knows what, is largely a break-down along the parental line to teach their children about God. (I said largely, not soley or exclusively.) Personal laziness, failure to try to understand and learn the meanings of Faith, not wiping the dust off the Bible and read its living words, not accepting responsibility for personal growth, etc., are causes for personal ignorance. People have lost, or never developed a sense of value. When seeking the truth, anything goes. When it comes to religion “anything goes” is wrong. There is just too much at stake to leave your eternal destiny to some unconsecrated hands, and every weird movement, with or without the accompanying noise, that comes across your path. If, as atheists and “want to know-nothings,” you think you can live a life on earth with your own brand of rules for whatever you consider is “good,” without your jealous God, your eternal destination to the fires of hell is a forgone conclusion. Even devil worshippers and Wicca members are good on the surface (outwardly), but what they do for excitement in secret may help you decide to join them too, complicating your choice between more than 100 religions and over 25,000 Protestant denominations. What the heck, you do not seem to have anything better to do. I doubt that even Purgatory (which you do not believe in either, but is documented in both the Old and New Testaments) will be the place for your purification for the cause of your disbelief. Believing you can be good without God, when, after 2000 years, you ought to know better, suggests the sin of pride; not smart. Wisdom begins with the fear of God. Thanks for visiting. - Bob Ephesians 4:32
